How does it work?
Load shedding is the practice of prioritizing your demand for electricity. Doing this can help you extend your supply.
Though you may not know it, your need for electricity fluctuates greatly throughout the day. Your home may have multiple AC units, and several appliances that are not consistently running 24/7. There are times when you through a load of laundry in your washing machine, times when your refrigerator’s compressor kicks on to cool your food, or when an AC unit cycles until your house reaches the desired temperature once again. Often these random demands for power happen at the same time, drastically compounding your energy needs unnecessarily.
Breaker Mate technology allows you to control how selected appliances and unites communicate with one another. Allowing you to prioritize your electrical demands at any given moment.
How it works:
Breakmate’s are installed directly into your existing panel or subpanel. Instillation is simple and does not require costly system renovations. Instillation can be completed by home/ business owners with little experience or licensed electricians. Once your Breakermate’s are installed you will have the ability to control your demand for power in your home or business directly from your phone.

- Avoid peak electricity charges.
No matter where you live, the utility company that services your home or business has the same #1 issue. Fighting peak draws on their power grid. Much has been said about the precarious situation that much of the worlds power grids are in. These infostructure issues are exacerbated when power customers individual peaks occur at the same time, creating massive issues. To combat the problem residential homes and commercial businesses are charged more per kilowatt during hours of the day when grid peaks tend to occur.
To further incentivize customers to avoid individual peaks, most electricity providers will charge your home or business more per kilowatt when your power draw peaks through specified thresholds regardless of what time of day it is. BM Residential solution
When a residential home is retrofitted with Breakermate’s, homeowners are able to program their appliance priorities so that your entire home never crosses your specified KW usage. When programed properly homeowners should feel little to no difference in personal comfort or day to day work while also avoiding the likelihood of multiple appliances randomly cycling at the same time, compounding their electricity needs, and creating a personal peak.
Homeowners can easily select several different priority sets based on time of day or energy situation, so that your preferences can change as your needs do.
Avoiding personal peaks can save residential homeowners between 10% and 30% in electricity costs each month. To learn more about cost savings in your particular area click here.

Commercial
When commercial businesses install Breakermate’s in their panel or subpanels, operators are able to program their appliances, machinery, and or computers so that your entire organization never crosses a specified KW usage. When programed correctly employees, owners, and operators feel little to no difference in personal comfort or day to day work while also avoiding the cost of peak electricity costs.
Owners and operators can easily create several different priority sets based on time of day, employee shifts or the organizations energy situation. This allows your preferences to change automatically as your needs do.

- Monitor and improve power usage.
Above and beyond the obvious programable advantage of the breaker mate, they can also be used to help home owners and businesses make better informed decisions. From the BM app you can see the exact energy usage of each circuit in your service. You can read how much power particular appliances or equipment is drawing at any given time. This data can be used in a variety of ways.
- Update your priority settings.
Reviewing your energy usage can help you make informed updates and changes to the priority settings you have chosen. For example if:
The BM app will periodically make suggestions to you on how you can improve a priory set after monitoring each circuits needs.
- Manage your appliances or equipment.
When a piece of equipment or appliances has an issue it tends to draw a lot more power than normal. Usually it continues to function properly for another few weeks or months before finally succumbing to the issue. By monitoring the energy draw of these units, business/ home owners can repair their equipment before they become it becomes too costly or seek a replacement unit while the original is still functioning.
For example: A home owner in Idaho had recently added breaker mates to his residential Pannel. Several months later he was alerted that his rooftop AC unit had been drawing significantly more power than what it had previously needed. Cost effective repairs were able to be made before he lost the entire AC unit.
- Change your schedule.
Sometimes life or business requires that certain circuits are ran no matter the cost. When monitoring this work using the BM app, home/ business owners can make informed decisions about when to preform certain tasks that are not time sensitive.
For example: A manufacturing company in Utah had recently retrofitted their facility with BM’s. After a few months they were able to gather data about much of their equipment. At the end of each workday it was important that several tools were heated to a specific temperature. This took an incredible amount of energy. Traditionally this operation had happened at the end of the day. This also happened to be right in the middle of the Rocky Mountain power peak charge hours. After reviewing the cost of running that one machine, management chose to move this required operation to the early house of the morning before their first shift started. The same task was being preformed but at only half the cost.
Manage your backup power and prepare for inevitable power outages.
Unserviceable peaks, weather conditions, natural disasters, and political upheaval can all contribute to all to common black out and brown outs. Chances are you have experienced one of these power conditions before. In many places these power outages are seen as normal or even inevitable.
Many businesses or home owners have chosen to purchase a back-up power system of some kind (Solar panels, batteries, generators ect.) BM’s can be used to significantly improve your current backup power application.
If an outage happens after work hours or when a homeowner is away from home back up power systems will unfortunately go unused because a manual transfer switch has not been activated. When installed Breaker Mates can recognize when a power outage has taken place and immediately transition your service to your preferred backup solution. Energy priority settings can be set to activate during a power outage and help you extend your supply. Giving you less disruption while the utility power is out.
